Welcome to my new web page. I felt the need to re-design my site to keep it fresh and relevant. There is content I wanted to add to the old site but I didn’t have the room to do it. Now that I own a “mac book” (shameless plug) I have the technology to do the things I want to do. I just have to learn how.
Leonard
My name is Leonard Misner and on June 21, 1999, at 31 years old, I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome ( TS ), A.D.H.D. and OCD. Going forward, upon completion, this site will be dedicated to the education and help to those affected with T.S.
Thanks to modern medical technology, the doctors have pinpointed the exact date I contracted T.S. 10-23-1967. the day I was born. It is hereditary passed on through generations affecting some and skipping others. Some people inherit the family fortune, I got T.S. Actually I am relieved, I can now put a name to the problems I've had all my life.
About 4 or 5 out of every 10,000 people in the world have T.S.There are two types of tics. Motor and vocal. Most people with TS suffer from both to some extent. Most of my tics are in my arms, neck and head.
Motor tics are involuntary movements of the body, and vocal tics can be a wide range of vocal sounds, from barking to swearing, whistling, screaming, saying the same word or phrase repeatedly. None of us want this, but we have it, and we have to live with it. There are many medications for this. some with severe side affects. I have tried a couple of medication with little help. I have decided not to continue medications. Although medication didn't help me, others are having great success with the medications.
PLEASE e-mail me with any questions you may have. If you have, or think you have T.S. DO NOT be afraid to talk with someone about it. There are a lot of us out there
I believe Tourette Syndrome has been a blessing to me. I know that sounds strange but I have been able to experience so much because of this disorder. I have given speeches in many places including Washington DC, Performed in Montreal Canada, Helped with a movie, Been a part of many many college papers, high school papers. I made a CD with some of the most amazing musicians and friends I have ever met. I was in a newsweek article and I have helped actors prepare for roles portraying Tourette Syndrome. I am truly blessed.
ANOTHER FRIEND OF THE TS COMMUNITY LOST BUT NOT FORGOT.

NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE
INTERVIEWS ME.
On Monday August 27th Newsweek magazine will be featuring an article about the recent Duke university study that says Tourette Syndrome can be treated with “Behavioral Management” Duke thinks this is a behavior issue. I think Duke and others involved in this study is doing a huge disservice to those of us who live with Tourette Syndrome on a daily basis. We have fought too hard to get Tourette Syndrome recognized as a Neurological disorder. Telling the world that this is Behavioral not only destroys all of our work but also gives what I believe is false hope to too many people. Newsweek interviewed me for this article and it will be in the 8-27-07 issue. Please pick up a copy and make the decision for yourself. Any feedback you want to give me will be appreciated.
My interview was reduced to one sentence in the article when it was published. I understand the need to edit but I really had more to say that I wish they would have printed. Oh well, Im sure my voice will continue to be heard in some way.
I do have to say that I hope everyone can find relief in some way but understand there is no a cure all (yet) Tourette Syndrome is a Neurological disorder. It is not behavioral or learned. Replacing one tic with another isnt a cure.
